What firms say about Wally

Frequently asked questions about prompts

What is a prompt in Wally, and is that the same as an automation?

No, a prompt isn't an automation: it always starts because someone picks it, in chat or from an add-in. A prompt is a task you describe well once, with a name, a task description and the questions Wally should ask first. There's no trigger that runs it on its own; you or a colleague decide each time Wally gets to work.

What input does Wally ask for before running a saved prompt?

Wally first asks the questions you defined when saving the prompt, such as "client" and "quarter" for a VAT return check. That way Wally gets exactly the data it needs for that one client, instead of you retyping context every time. You can also attach a template document from the library to the prompt, so Wally uses it right away.

Who can see a prompt: only me, my team, or the whole firm?

You choose the visibility per prompt: personal, with specific colleagues or teams, or for the whole firm. You also decide whether other colleagues may edit it. A VAT return check that works well, for example, you’d set at firm level, while you keep a personal morning-start overview to yourself. Today only a small share of prompts are shared firm-wide, which is exactly where the most value sits.

Can I take over a colleague’s prompt without changing the original?

Yes, one click makes your own, personal copy of a shared prompt. That lets you adjust the task or the questions to your own liking without changing your colleague’s or the firm’s version. This also works for prompts from Wally’s wider prompt library, where firms share their best saved instructions with each other via a shareable link.

Does a prompt work in Outlook, Excel and Word too, or only in chat?

A prompt works everywhere Wally works: in chat, and in the add-ins for Outlook, Excel and Word. You pull up your VAT return check, for example, without switching screens, with the same firm knowledge and dossiers alongside. You don’t need a separate trip to Wally when you’re already working in your mailbox, spreadsheet or document.

Does a prompt improve itself after use, or do I have to update it manually?

Wally sometimes proposes an improvement to a prompt after use, but you decide each time whether to accept it. Nothing changes on its own: it's a suggestion you can review and accept or reject, so the prompt gets sharper over time without you constantly having to adjust it yourself. Any colleague can also save a brand new prompt straight from a chat conversation.
